Edi Mūe Gathegi (born March 10, 1979) is a Kenyan-American role player. He appeared as recurring character Dr. Jeffrey Cole (aka "Big Love") in the television series House, as Cheese in the 2007 film Gone Infant Gone, Laurent in the films Twilight and its sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and as Darwin in X-Men: Starting time Form. Edi also featured in the AMC series, Into the Badlands, every bit Baron Jacobee. He has also been a recurring character in NBC'due south television set series, The Blacklist, equally Matias Solomon, an operative for a covert organization. Gathegi reprised the office in the 2016–2017 season offense thriller, The Blacklist: Redemption.[ii] He has also played a leading role in Startup, a television drama series on Crackle.
Early on life [edit]
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Gathegi grew up in Albany, California, U.Due south.[three] Gathegi attended the Academy of California, Santa Barbara, where he played basketball until a knee injury concluded his career. Gathegi then began taking interim classes.[iii] He and so studied at New York University's Graduate Acting Programme at the Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2005.[4] Gathegi's career began in theatre,[v] and his stage credits include Two Trains Running at the Old World Theatre, As You lot Like It, Twelfth Night, Othello, A Midsummer Dark's Dream, and Cyrano de Bergerac, amongst others.[1]
Career [edit]
Gathegi's starting time professional part was the Haitian Cabbie in the 2006 film, Crank. Though he had originally auditioned for the role of Kaylo, the producers gave the role to Efren Ramirez and instead offered Gathegi an appearance as the Haitian Cabbie.[v] He was skeptical at offset most performing a Haitian accent, but was coached by a Haitian friend.[v] In 2007, later invitee-starring on Lincoln Heights and Veronica Mars, Gathegi went on to star as Bodie in Death sentence, Darudi in The Fifth Patient and Cheese in Gone Baby Gone. He later had a recurring role as Mormon intern Dr. Jeffrey Cole in the television receiver medical drama Business firm. His character was oftentimes mocked for his religious beliefs past Dr. House, who himself is an atheist. He also guest-starred in CSI: Miami, CSI: Offense Scene Investigation and Life on Mars in 2008 before being cast every bit Laurent in Twilight. When Gathegi first auditioned for the 2008 moving-picture show, adapted from the same-titled first book in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, he had not heard of the serial and was not enlightened that his graphic symbol was a vampire.[half dozen] He now has read the whole series and calls himself a hardcore fan.[6] [seven] He portrays Eddie Willers in Atlas Shrugged (2011), based on Ayn Rand's novel of the aforementioned name. He later portrayed another Haitian grapheme, Jean Baptiste, in the fifth flavor of Justified, but was unhappy with the role and asked to be written off the bear witness.[8] [nine] He has also been a recurring grapheme in NBC'due south tv series, The Blacklist, as Matias Solomon, an operative for a covert arrangement. Gathegi reprised the role in the 2016–2017 season criminal offence thriller, The Blacklist: Redemption.[2] He also portrays the grapheme Ronald Dacey on StartUp.
